First EDDD Conference Held at the University of Rijeka

The first international conference Epistemic Democracy and Digital Technologies: Legitimacy, Knowledge, and Justice in Contemporary Democracies (EDDD) took place from June 18 to 20, 2025, at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Rijeka.
The conference is a key output of the research project Epistemic Democracy in a Digital Era (IP-2024-05-4113), funded by the Croatian Science Foundation. It brought together leading international scholars to explore the impact of digital technologies on knowledge production, democratic legitimacy, and social justice.
The keynote lecture on the first day was delivered by Amandine Catala (Université du Québec à Montréal), titled “From a Pluralist Account of Epistemic Agency to a Pluralist Account of Epistemic Repair.” On the second day, Johannes Thumfart (Vrije Universiteit Brussel) gave the keynote address, “The Liberal Internet in the Postliberal Era: Digital Sovereignty, Private Government, and Practices of Neutralization.”
Over the course of three days, the conference featured contributions from scholars affiliated with institutions including Aarhus University, McGill University, the University of Cologne, the University of Ljubljana, the University of Belgrade, the University of West Bohemia, the University of Arizona, the University of Pisa, and the University of Rijeka. Topics ranged from epistemic injustice and AI to epistemic humility, trust, and democratic agency in the digital era.
The conference was organized by Ivan Cerovac (University of Rijeka), Elvio Baccarini (University of Rijeka), Vojko Strahovnik (University of Ljubljana), Miklós István Zala (Aarhus University), and Kristina Lekić Barunčić (University of Rijeka).
